Profiles | W I L I | Women's International Leadership Institute: Empowering Women Globally | WILI is a nonprofit organization and was organized in response to the problem of women in poverty who do not have the education or leadership skills to improve their economic situation- women whose day-to-day activities are so focused on survival at minimal subsistence levels that they can not move forward in terms of increasing their own education (and thus improving their economic situation) or skill-level in terms of economic self-sufficiency.

Every so often we will present the successful achievements of the women we have worked with. This section is your chance to follow their progress.

Gabriela
Gabriela was a strong leader of women with disabilities in Oaxaca, Mexico. She died in 1996. Gabriela's vision was that all women had a right to an education and opportunities for employment. Many women with disabilities in Oaxaca have no education beyond grammar school and no opportunities for employment. WILI supports Gabriela's dream of a restaurant in Oaxaca that would be owned and managed by women with disabilities.

Rosa
Rosa lives in a small pueblo near Oaxaca City. She is a talented seamstress who wants to be able to make clothes and then sell them in her village. She is very skilled in embroidery! Rosa hopes to open a small shop where she can also sell fabric, thus being able to buy fabric at a discount for her own sewing needs.

Crese
Crese lives in Oaxaca City and is a hard worker who has demonstrated an ability to cook. She has a dream of coming to the United States to work six months as a trainee in a restaurant. WILI hopes to obtain the funds to enable Crese's dream to come true.
